About Granitware:
Granite Ware, or Enamelware as it's also called, was said to first bring splashes of color to kitchen containers in the mid-nineteenth century. People say that the were bright, swirling bands of colorful enamel easily identify the Granite Ware style.
The original manufacturing process could possibly have started with a tin vessel that would be coated with up to four coats of enamel. The firing process was said to give the final product a glassy, almost porcelain finish.
Many collectors say older pieces had riveted double seams and wooden handles. Old Granite Ware in pristine conditions has been claimed to sell for up to $300 at auctions and conventions. Collectors claim they tend to value these older pieces more than modern, massed produced examples.
Granite Ware products:
The creation process involves adhering single or multiple coats of enamels to different metals. Once set, the finished look would give off a swirling ribbon-like pattern all over the object it was applied to. Granite Ware or grey enamel is said to have become very popular with many people, there are groups of people who gather together to go to conventions about products and auctions.
Many people claim to consider Granite Ware to be more of a collectable rather than an everyday used kitchen item. There are many different kitchen items that can be finished in this way, the main items tend to be pots, pans, plates, and mugs.
