Enamel Oval Frame. These frames are said to be quite difficult to make due to their shape, many people say the effort put into making the enamel oval frames shows when they are finished.

Enamel oval frames:
Oval frames are said to have been in production for many centuries, some collectors claim they have frames that date back to Victorian ages. The frames are made in the same way as other enameled products but there is said to be more of a complexity to their creation compared to other enameled products.
The enamel oval frames are first made from a metal which will give them their shaped and strength. The enamel is applied into the space between the outside of the frame and the inside of the frame, after firing more enamel paste is added to gain a smooth enameled surface on the frame.
After the enamel on the frame has set, it is possible for the frame to be plated with gold, silver or even platinum. By adding the metal plating the enamel oval frame is said to have have more of a luxurious appearance. One the entire frame has cooled and set it is highly polished to give the enamel a glossy shine and the gold, silver or platinum plating a reflective finish.
Some enamel oval frames can range from very low prices to very high prices depending on what grade of quality you are looking for. The higher priced oval frames have gemstones and precious metal plating in them where as the lower priced ones may only contain enamel and another common metal.

Enamel oval frame decoration:
Aside from the gold, silver or platinum plating, the frames are also able to have added decoration such as a more complex metal structure. A complex metal structure leave more spaces to be filled in with enamel, sometimes the enamel can be of multiple colours or shades.
In some cases the enamel oval frames can have small metal decoration, such as small metal objects like the bow in the above image, these metal objects can add to the appearance and also the functionality of the frame, for example they can be used as feet for stability.
